GameDaily haastatteli Miyamotoa pelin tiimoilta:
To start, Miyamoto commented that although Mario Galaxy is considered more hardcore and Wii Fit is for the casual audience they do have one thing in common: they've both been designed to be accessible to just about anybody. For Mario Galaxy, he pointed out that a key new feature is a second player assist function that someone else to get involved with the game and share the experience by assisting the primary player. He also said that the game's gravity gameplay mechanic is something that's easy for anyone to understand and quickly get the hang of. The camera that follows Mario around spheres was also cited as a much improved camera system for a 3-D title. Mario Galaxy will have approximately 40 galaxies to play through, with about 120 stars to collect in total.
In the Q&A session that followed, GameDaily BIZ asked if he agreed with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, who said during Nintendo's E3 press conference that Galaxy is the first true worthy successor to Mario 64. And if that's the case, then what does that say about Super Mario Sunshine? Miyamoto did not give a definitive answer, but he said that Galaxy definitely provides a similar feeling of freedom like Mario 64. He said that one of the great things about Mario 64 was just running and jumping around the environment and that with the new gravity system and the planets in Galaxy it brings back that feeling, but with more streamlined controls on the Wii. He completely dodged the second part of the question about Sunshine.
As for what to expect in the game, Miyamoto said that the great thing about spherical objects is that you can make them bigger and bigger – to the point where it's so big that running around is almost like on a flat surface. He said that we can definitely expect some pretty huge areas. Someone asked if Luigi might be somewhere in the game, and he would only say that it's a secret. In terms of difficulty, what made Sunshine fun in some ways was the game difficulty, he said. However, with the Wii Nintendo wants to have the right balance for the hardcore and casual player. Miyamoto said that up until just a few months ago, the difficulty in Galaxy was "significantly easier," but that he started making it more difficult recently to the point where he began worrying the Nintendo bigwigs in Tokyo.
Miyamoto noted that the development team that worked on Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat has been working on Galaxy since they finished up DK and their team size grew from 30 people to 50 as the project progressed.
